Mayor George H. Gornto moved to East Dublin in 1966 while employed with J P Stevens Co. He worked with J P Stevens Co. until 1976, after which he started George Gornto Tax Service, serving the community until his retirement in 2010. The Mayor continues to give back by volunteering with Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), serving on the Laurens County Solid Waste Authority Board and through membership with the East Dublin Lion’s Club.
Mayor Gornto began his service in city government in 1978, serving as a Council member and later on the Georgia Municipal Association Board, of which he was District President. His tenure as Mayor of the City of East Dublin began in 1980 and he still enjoys serving the City.
The Mayor’s wife, Frances Jackson Gornto, retired from Alexander’s, after twenty years of employment and at present volunteers with Promise of Hope and CASA.
Mayor and Mrs. Gornto have two children, Lisa Gornto Cauley and Stephanie Gornto Burns, and four grandchildren, Kellie Cauley, Gatlin Smalley, Brett Cauley, and Karlie Smalley. They are members of the Minter Baptist Church.
